The Prospect Lefferts Gardens blog Hawthorne Street wrote about a pet store coming to Flatbush between Maple and Midwood this September. A tipster just sent us a photo of the shop to be (in the old brow threading storefront), noting, “No more driving across to the Slope for dog food!” The store, at 575 Flatbush, will be called Trixies. 1. It’s not just the everyday food – wouldn’t it be nice to be able to stop off on your way to/from the park and pick up a nice toy or some treats? Hiking all the way down to Albemarle isn’t going to fit in with that. Or what about stopping off on your way home from the subway because you just remembered you needed something? Some peoples’ pets don’t have health conditions requiring special foods, but not everyone is so lucky, particularly as animals age. A nice alternative and one that doesn’t deserve to be criticized by people who don’t even live in the neighborhood.

  2. Over the last couple of years we’ve been able to get a lot more without leaving PLG. After 35 years of personally “driving across to the Slope” for most every thing I think it’s about time!

  3. i find it hard to believe there is no dog food available around there. VERY hard to believe. this person is obviously going bananas about uber expensive dog food finally coming to the hood.

there is very little difference between the super expensive dog food and the cheap supermarket / bodega varieties. ive done countless experiments on my dog with this, ive wavered on and off for years… there really is no difference. most dogs actually prefer the cheap stuff anyway.

that said, when i can afford it try to buy my dog the best, but sometimes, sorry boy, it’s a 4 dollar bag of “come n get it” or alpo. he still loves me.

  4. great plus for PLG! (congrats mr. salmieri for taking the dive)! but that photo leaves a lot to be desired. someone should have been a little more creative or perhaps a little more patient giving the owner more time to spruce up.
