For many who’ve lived off the 4th Avenue and 9th Street F stop, there was something assuring about the constant presence of the Pita Hut: unfancy, oddly located, decent food. Well, looks like things are changing up a bit: it’s now called Pita Pizza Grill, and we assume they’ll be serving the same types of pita and juices, plus pizza. What’s really worth noting is that yellow and green checkerboard paintwork. You like? GMAP
DeeDee Doughnuts was spectacularly filthy. There was dried out dough caked on every surface there – counters, walls, and especially, the phone.
But if you had a belly full of alcohol that needed to be soaked up at 3 or 4 in the morning, they hit the spot.
Pizza Pita Grill…. and Auto body? that storefront is not appetizing.
Passed by it daily for 12 years when it was still just a lowly donut shop that had more flies than customers, mainly due to the stench of the dumpster they kept right beside the front door. Of course they had to go out of business when Dunkin Donuts took over that corner.
That’s okay, *rob*, you’re allowed to call me an a-hole via the internet. I think that’s somewhere in my job description.
eeeeeks, my first comment was more of “can people be more of an ahole.” not directed at the person who wrote it!

love the checkerboard, eye catching and contempo
some of his food is really special, and open late!
Hi vinca,
I was a block off with the Park Slope Eatery, but I’m not claiming that this restaurant is on 4th Avenue, just saying that it is one of the immediate things around when you leave the 4th Avenue and 9th Street stop, and it’s familiar to those who take the subway there.
Yes, DeeDee Donuts was a constant presence (decades worth). This pita shop and it’s predecessor storefront only appeared in the last few years. And speaking of what the heck is wrong, this store is located just off 5th Ave., not 4th. Same as the “artisanal” bread shop opening on 7th Ave., written up last week—that’s on 5th St., not 4th. EmilyNonko’s aversion to 5? Not assuring.
