Outdoor Seating for Der Schwarze Kölner

Der Schwarze Kölner could have outdoor tables any day now. The popular newish beer hall at 710 Fulton Street in Fort Greene got the nod from Community Board 2 a couple of weeks ago. According to one of the barmaids we spoke to yesterday, the tables will be outside both sides of the restaurant. And they could be there by as soon as this weekend. Could be a nice place to stop off for a cold one after visiting opening day of the outdoor Flea at Bishop Loughlin tomorrow! GMAP
loud, yes…but the beer is great and I love the sausages (hardly wonderbread and C-Town.)
It’s not just noisy like a bar, it’s noisy like an echo chamber with a jet airplane in it. somebody messed up big time.
Sehr lustig Babs! (I’m posting from Berlin)
Waa waa waa, it’s noisy…it’s a bar. And I ate there last night and the susdages aren’t half bad, and the buns aren’t Wonder bread. And it’s doing well, so suck it, bonecrusher.
This place is possibly the worse German bar ever. Cheap hot dogs from C town served on wonder bread buns, bad ethnic posters hanging on the walls to provide a German atmosphere. Top it off with the boot mug… Gaaaaaag
There was a Zum Zum on rhe corner of University Pl and 8th St when I was at NYU, but we called it To The To The.
Ya Heather I know. I would never suggest flocked wallpaper from an aesthetic viewpoint. But these are materials which work to absorb and deflect sound and there’s a reason they get overused in retail establishments.
I have never been there with a kid, incidentally. All of my visits have been later in the day and its even louder.
Who here remembers Zum Zum? Do they still have Zum Zum? That place was shiny and loud too ; )
I think the noise is somewhat a factor of the number of families with babies and extended visiting relatives… but no idea what it’s like at night. Maybe worse?
Are they going to put up some kind of fencing outside to keep the tots from running into traffic?
And I love tin ceilings, flocked wallpaper and wainscotting… a lot, but every single new bar (with the exception of Chance II) seems to have gone with the old timey vibe and something about it is starting to remind me of an upscale version of Houlihan’s.
Who here remembers Houlians? Do they still have Houlihans? If not, I mean TGIF.
A tin ceiling, some flocked wallpaper, wainscoting or anything to break up the hard shiny surfaces would help. Even tablecloths would make it better or posters and curtains. I know it might not fit in with their vision of hygienic german culture, but the noise is unbelievable.
