We can’t get enough of these Galil honey cookies that we picked up for $2.29 at a little gourmet grocery store called A & A Spice at 532 Court Street down on the south side of Carroll Gardens (between Huntington and 9th Streets). The cookies, which are imported from Israel, look like they’d be hard and dry we only bought a bag because we were low on cash but felt guilty about leaving the friendly shop empty-handed but they’re actually very soft and sweet, and reminded us of homemade molasses cookies. (And according to the nutrition label, 4 to 5 of them only contain 90 calories and 1g of fat!) A & A Spice isn’t stocked as heavily as the average bodega, but what they lack in quantity, they make up for in quality. They carry a solid selection of dried fruit and nuts, as well as harder-to-find items for local foodies, like tamarind concentrate, black caraway seeds, and cornichons.
