I’m sure she could have bought the whole country of Malawi for forty million. But then she would have too many little orphans to take care of, not just one or two.
Anglicisms are nothing compared to Singlish, etson.
The only British phrase that bothers me is when someone says, “Oh, riiiight.” They don’t mean that they are in agreement with you, like many Americans might think, they actually are thinking “What the hell is wrong with this wanker?”
I love “piss up.” And, along that line a very good Brit friend gave me one of the better hangover cures…a “gunner” or ginger ale & bitters.
Hey Retards! Get a load of this! The poor retards who drove America into financial insolvency now need a reach around! Please take the time to read this story because if you believe the retards will hold up rents in the Ghetto, you are smoking some powerful stuff..
“Mr. Weinstein, who last October lost his job as a research analyst at investment bank Cowen & Co., has said good-bye to Wall Street to take a shot at starting Magellanic Brewery. His plan is to hire other breweries to make his beer, a light lager he describes as “a better Budweiser.â€
No bad! At lease this guy is giving it a shot and not sitting on his ass!
“More than 20,000 securities industry workers in New York have lost their jobs in this recession. And the Wall Street outflow threatens to turn into an exodus over the next two years: The Independent Budget Office forecasts another 30,000 job losses in the securities industry, or 25% of the city’s best-paid workers. By 2011, total financial job losses could surpass 77,000, when layoffs at insurers and other institutions are included.”
I wonder how many “investments” will have to be liquidated to meet “Cash flow” problems? I wonder how many Assheads are feeling the blast from the Mutant Asset Bubble????
Oh here is the “Money Shot”!
“Fearing a devastating brain drain of smart, ambitious people who no longer can afford to stay in New York, the city plans to spend $45 million to turn former Wall Street bankers into entrepreneurs by offering them training, office space and even funding for their startups. Those who don’t yearn to become entrepreneurs are being encouraged to find work with the federal government, which has embarked on a radical overhaul of finance regulation and will need to fill the ranks of its expanding workforces here for everything from the Federal Reserve to the Securities and Exchange Commission.”
Now we are subsiding former Assheads now?????!!!!!!!!! Ok this is going to turn out wonderful. Maybe they can come out with a “Welfare Skittles Program” of these ‘Tards!
Dave,
Can you let me know what other Anglicisms really irritate you so I can use them more?
I get called out by English family & friends for using American words / phrases / spellings from time to time.
In fact I just used one in that sentence.
“orientate” IS a word, I agree. But the more acceptable of the two, at least on this side of the pond, is “oriented” as opposed to “orientated” in the meaning of “to be inclined towards or to be in a location relative to.”
I’m not surprised though that I would be having this discussion with a person who was raised on “British” English.
