  1. Cobble, I’m very sorry to hear that. It’s not your fault. So many are in the same situation. I’m convinced that if I get laid off, I’m going to have to switch fields altogether. My industry is dying.

  2. Rob, I feel your pain, the State of New York is a f–king thief and a f–king pirate.
They make the feds look reasonable.
And for what? Do we get any better services than people in any state? No. In fact most govt. services in NY suck.
It just sucks Rob, I have no words of comfort for you. Sorry.

  3. Cobblehiller,
What kind of role were you in previously? You are probably familiar with it already but efinancialcareers.com always seems to have a decent number of listings.
I also have a list of people that recruit for hedge funds if that would be of any use.

  4. “we do have a very sketch bookkeeper. hmm. thanks for the info/advice.”

Rob, stop blaming everything on everyone else. You have very simple taxes. What you SHOULD have done is filled out your taxes when you got your W2 at the end of January. Then you could have filed your 1040 right away and at the same time known you owed the state. You would have had your federal refund by now and you would have had almost three months to save the $300 difference. Really, I had this figured out when I was like, 15.

Send in your returns, send what you can with the state, with a note that you can’t pay it all. You’ll get a bill for penalties and interest. In spite of the above comments, I don’t believe you can do any kind of installment plan without paying them. I could be wrong, I don’t keep with that kind of stuff. And for the $300, it probably doesn’t pay to hire professional help.

This is how poor people screw themselves over all the time. Move up in life, dude. You have an education.
