ENY, I thought the point of the OT was basically to allow for an area to have a free-for-all and to cleanse the other threads of off topic banter. So I would think it would be the one thread where he would be less concerned about the quality of the discussion.
I dunno- I thought the open thread was supposed to be a fun place so we wouldn’t be posting this stuff on the other threads. I do want to point out I did MY part to elevate the level of discussion by remarking on George Orwell, and inserting a classic literary topic 🙂

I think in essence Mr. Brownstoner got cranky because he was tired of reading the let’s say “less than substantive” OT conversation. Pretty funny, actually! It was a plaintive wail for better material.

I think when people come on with high brow attitudes and use words like “palaver” the level of palaver is about to take a nosedive. 🙂
