Rob: Think about something that she doesn’t do anymore because the grandchildren take so much time. Then, think of something that that will make her enjoy that activity with less time. For example, if she doesn’t get to sleep in anymore, buy her luxurious sheets so that she can enjoy what time she can spend in bed.
Rob — get her one of those helmets with beer cans on top (ya know with the straws). Maybe handfree drinking while she’s watching Law & Order and Perry Mason reruns will take the edge off South Carolina.
Tyburg, very true! There is a silver lining after all! Plus, the area where the office is located I didn’t see any reasonable lunch possibilities anyway 🙂
I have one tattoo. It’s my first name and a small red heart. It’s on the top right side of where my ‘hey-nanny-nanny’ starts. I like the heart part of it, but I now regret having my first name there. Someone once said to me that only tardmeisters put their name on their bodies as if they need a reminder of what it is 🙁
How old are the three kids that she helps to look after? If she is having to do it all day/all night, why not treat her to some personal time by using the gift card to pay someone to babysit for the kids?
That way, you are sending the message that you know how hard it is to raise children and, because it was a gift from you, she will enjoy her personal time that much more.

okay – I’ll try to be a bit more constructive.

I hacve a hard time buying my parents birthday & Christmas presents as well. It’s just more difficult after they get to a certain age.
rob – get a tattoo of “I heart grandma” and send her a polaroid
InsertSnappyNameHere… at least you didn’t spend $5 on the subway. Small positive?
