  1. “wandering jews?” LOL- yes Pete but despite that, Russian Jews did not all come from Germany, nor was the German influx into Eastern Europe so extensive as to make Yiddish so apparently universal to Russian and Polish Jews.- But what about the Khazars for instance? And the use of Hebrew?

  2. Wonder if you know how Yiddish traveled? Because it is mostly derived from German, I’m assuming that was the oldest contributory language so I’m wondering how my Russian forbears wound up speaking Yiddish rather than a variant of the local Eastern European languages? I grew up in a Yiddish speaking household- my family was always in Russia and/or Poland.
