Do you actually understand all the financing moves that led up to NYC nearly going bankrupt in 1975 and do you know what NYC’s financing and debt obligation practices are today as compared with 35 years ago? Do you know how much of the City’s current budget goes to debt service as compared with 1974? Do you know what the City is paying in interest on its various bond issues now as compared with then? How about ratings for its bonds? The City’s financial position at this difficult time is not merely a function of real estate tax revenues. I am curious as to your knowledge and historical perspective on the City’s finances.
