DH, I’ve been in NYC for 25 years, and I know how you feel. When I sold my house in 2006, I was DONE with NYC FOREVER. I was headed for a calm, peaceful life in Burlington, VT. I was gonna live on the lake and ski as much as possible.
As I think you know, I made it as far as Framingham, MA – a pit stop so my brother could help me with my parents’ and grandparents’ estates. After 3 months of NYC “detox”, I couldn’t get back here fast enough, and I have no regrets, either about taking a break from the City for a few months or about coming back.
And, you’ll appreciate this: I got so homesick so fast that I was watching every re-run possible of L&O, SVU and CI.
lamb- drink lots of water, don’t work outside during the hottest part of the day, and spend your time in structures and clothing designed with the weather in mind. It wasn’t all that bad, honestly. I don’t mind the heat in general, but I found AZ preferable to july in new orleans, for example.
Thanks for the support, Adam. But, if you re-read my 11:59am post, I’m afraid you’ll have to pour the Amstel under my front door – it’s all good though, my cleaning woman just mopped it.
Summers on the Gulf coast are brutal with the humidity, but at least you have trees, unlike the desert.
Ha, no – I’m saying your body adjusts after being in the conditions for a while.
haha cgar. perhaps i need a long vacation!
also – re: SVU, rumors are Jennifer Love Hewitt will replace Mariska.
jester, that’s true, but even with the humidity it never seemed nearly as bad as august in az. what were you doing those 2 summers?

I remember Iowa as being quite hot; spent two summers there.
