In both California and Alabama, I knew a number of people in entry level professional jobs where the woman did not work.

However, it is close to impossible to do this and keep up with the various conveniences and status symbols that most people equate with necessities now.

When I was a kid, it was possible for a family to live in a house in the suburbs with a stay-at-home mom and dad with a working-class job. So mom was home to do the cleaning and cooking, plus showing her kids how to do it. Likewise no need for childcare.

For most families these days, that doesn’t work anymore, and if both parents are working 40 hours, 1) they will spend their spare time cleaning instead of with their kids, 2) the house will be dirty, or 3) they will hire someone who make less per hour than either parent to clean and watch the kids.

I’m sure there are plenty of false positives. I just have not been able to find them.
Perhaps I’ll have to read all 128,959 stories to know for sure.
