  1. recap from reading yesterday until about noon, then being gone all day: terrorists found sleeping on water boards on cinder blocks (now sleeping with fishes); draperies left open; laptop lost then found; *Rob* lost then found. There is no such thing as a renaissance terrorist, although OT pres was on a reconnaissance mission to find rob. Pres succeeds and wins points. Maybe I did not understand everything perfectly (no rewrites please).

Fairly newly constructed home in Abbottabad is critiqued by Brownstone commenters. “Boondoggle” is left undefined, until now (googling):

“People sometimes refer to an official organization or activity as a boondoggle when they think it wastes a lot of time and money and does not achieve much.”

  2. My closest childhood friend was a real beauty- as in beauty contest beautiful. Highly intelligent.Years of drugs, horrible illnesses and family tragedies took a terrible toll. It is sad, it’s more than sad. At least she has a good marriage and a couple of great kids. But when I see her now and remember how beautiful she was, it breaks my heart.

  3. Today I had to run around taking care of things for my folks and mother-in-law. I went to the bank in my old neighborhood, and ran into a guy I grew up with. In fact, he lived directly across the street from my folks’ house, and he still lives on the block, though further down.

We didn’t bother much with each other when we were kids. He was part of the tough-guy contingent in the area, and had no use for me, though we were on friendly terms. He was a lady-killer when we were young, because he was Al Pacino-good looking.

His life didn’t turn out so good. He originally started out fine – he was an insurance adjuster, got married and had at least one kid. Then he became an alcoholic and his wife kicked him out of the house.

When I saw him today, he looked like 52 going on 75. The years of drinking had taken their toll. You would never know that this guy once had good looks (especially with his front teeth missing).

I find it incredibly sad when you see a life ruined, especially someone that you knew as a kid, when they were young and full of promise.

  4. a train full of moonfaces (i.e. the L train) is a lot scarier than an actual ghetto train. i’d rather my laptop stolen than my fucking soul. but then again im not a moron that opens up an expensive laptop on a crowded train. there ARE are a ton of them on the R train ill give you that, one dude in particular who i see every single morning… his entire being actually makes me cringe even tho he isnt doing anything other than sitting across from me or sitting a few seats away.

    *rob*

  5. *rob* I was about to send a search party for you!!!!

I am glad you weren’t arrested, hospitalized, in trouble, etc. etc.

Lech, so what’s with the leaving the NEW laptop on the train? Either you are blissed out from your peaceful ride or you are working too many hours….
