Well, OPEC can guide the direction of prices by regulating supply. it hasn’t done that in quite some time and, to the contrary, seems to be full on wrt Saudi Arabia. The move above $100 was certainly due to the problems with Libya, an OPEC member.

Bxgrl, I traipsed all over Philly, campaigning for Obama. I like him, I realize he has a tough job, I am not saying he is a hack or anything like that or discounting the incredibly hard job he has. I am saying that I am disappointed in what he has said about markets and also I am very disappointed about Afghanistan because I think he was steamrolled into a Iraq style, Petraeus style anti-insurgency, nation building plan there which he professed to not want to do. That kills me. It really does. Also, all of this talk about the budget and this barely gets a mention.
