  1. My boot camp drill sargeant’s name was David Lynch. (actually in the Navy they’re called RDCs, not drill sargeants, but I always say drill sargeant so people will get it more quickly). Senior Chief David Lynch. My boot camp experience made infinitely more sense than Lost Highway.

  2. “It is believed that the spread of syphilis across the globe was probably sparked by Christopher Columbus and his crew. Columbus became infected with syphilis and later died of the deadly disease.”

  3. My father’s advice about planting a tree–dig a great hole and you’ll have a great tree. You only get one chance to give your tree the best beginning.

  4. Lech – That’s a folk etymology – backformed from the existing word. (Sort of like an urban legend.) The same idea was actually around during the American Revolution & other wars.

  5. Somehow I’m remembering hearing lech’s story last night in a dream. I also had a dream that all the PLUSAs went on an 8th Ave field trip
