When we first bought our house we found old wallpaper wrapped in a newspaper form 1895 up above the skylight. In the paper–the World I think, there was an article in the sports section about what has to be a pretty uniquely new york sport. Apparently these sporting gentlemen would put a “chinaman” on a bicycle, give him a bit of a head start and then try to chase him down. The article had betting results on the chase, I think based on how far the gambler expected the cyclist to get before the mob caught him. This was all reported in the same straight up tone you’d see in an article about a baseball game.
MM- love the tower room. Agree on everything else except the horse sculpture. I kinda like it- at least they didn’t drape with with brocade, polyurethane it or put it on an oriental rug.
mm, agree. Some people just have too much stuff. My favorite pool though is from the movie Laurel Canyon. Living well. Try and catch it, great Frances McDormand role as hippie/music promoter. The pool though is the star.
dibs- it doesn’t have a dead William Holden in it.
From the Walkabout thread….

You can’t make this stuff up.
Last night I was talking with someone about a book, and asked her what she thought.
“I think that character is chary,” she said.

RHSUOTD (raunch hour set up of the day)
dibs, I take it you don’t buy the self-adhesive kind?
dibs, I like the inhabitants in my pool to be lively and randy.
Howdy, chums.
DeLepp, surely it can’t be better than Norma Desmond’s pool!!!
