  1. “one’s own beliefs about what is moral and ethical”

So doing what you feel like, or what gives you a positive self-image…..
And how to act should be a point of contention amongst believers.

Don’t see the relevance of the Middle East comment. Both religious and non-religious people are capable of bad acts.

  2. “What is your reference point for what is ‘moral and ethical’? What if one person’s morals and ethics conflict with another’s?”

Right, a point of contention unknown among believers, that’s for sure. God thing sure did work out well for the middle east, right??

One’s reference point is one’s own beliefs about what is moral and ethical (not hedonism). Doesn’t need a god in it. Ridiculous argument.

  3. “I live a moral & ethical life w/ empathy for my fellows”

What is your reference point for what is ‘moral and ethical’? What if one person’s morals and ethics conflict with another’s?
In the absence of God, that line of thinking seems to boil down to doing what you feel like.
If an atheist wanted to argue that common morals and ethics didn’t exist, then I could see that argument.

(I do think you are a good person, btw, don’t mean that to be insulting. We would just differ on how or why!)
