YES you MUST go to the Sands Point Preserves. I spent most of my senior year in HS “tanning” on their lawns. Back in the 90’s is when it was free to drive in and park and wander – now I think they make you pay $5 to do that…..
while there if you like really good middle eastern food – you have to go to Shish Kebab on Main Street in Port Washington. The best bakery in town is St. Honore – it’s amazing – I mean truly!
Thanks for the reminder, Gem. We’ve been meaning to go to some of the homes on the Gold Coast. I keep mentioning it to my husband. We’ve been to some of the towns but none of the houses open to the public.
Why we’ve never been is beyond me. Because I’m a house tour fiend.
ET – if you are looking for day trips in the spring – might I suggest the Sands Point Preserves in Sands Point Long Island. Sands Point is on the northern tip of Port Washington – about a 40 minute drive from BK if you don’t hit any traffic. I grew up there and it’s gorgeous – it’s the old Guggenheim/Falaise estate and they have 2 large castles that you can stroll around in and take in the scene of the estate and the Long Island sound. You can then take the steps all the way down to the beach and walk along that for a bit. Pack a picnic lunch b/c you can then sit on the immense lawn they have and just enjoy a warm peaceful day
it’s not very crowded there.
didn’t you hear? gem called car service earlier today. rushed up there and is now home. baby in hand
ET – due March 28
