My daughter earned enough money sitting for Scott and Wendy on Friday night to complete her hair dyeing fund. Yesterday she got a complicated dye job in Chinatown with the hair in front a clown-color orange and various strands of hair with orange horizontal stripes.
From a physical catastrophe perspective, the situation in Japan is more similar to the Mississippi Gulf Coast after Katrina, where there was massive devastation along the coast but a rapid draining of the area and a substantially intact infrastructure a few miles inland.
New Orleans was physically isolated with little functioning infrastructure for dozens of miles, and faced increasing water levels in the days after the initial disaster.
Of course, there were also plenty of social, cultural, and governmental response issues at play as well.

The US troops took less time to get on the ground in Japan and Haiti than they did in New Orleans. Things that make you go hmmm.
I met scott & wendy and super briefly BSM. which other newbies did I miss?
And salted caramel ice cream sounds like it’s worth the price.
Pleasure to meet the new folks.
It really hit me how much I’ve come to enjoy hanging with the old ones.
Rob, did you try the vinegar? Thanks again for the dead sea mud!
Scott, if your mandatory cutoff was 11:30 then I’ll tell Wendy it was 11:30. if not, it was 12
m4l, thanks for the timekeeping services, as well as the ride home.

Slope, watching the news on Japan was very draining
Unlike the looting and violence that went on here during Katrina.
