  1. My daughter earned enough money sitting for Scott and Wendy on Friday night to complete her hair dyeing fund. Yesterday she got a complicated dye job in Chinatown with the hair in front a clown-color orange and various strands of hair with orange horizontal stripes.

  2. From a physical catastrophe perspective, the situation in Japan is more similar to the Mississippi Gulf Coast after Katrina, where there was massive devastation along the coast but a rapid draining of the area and a substantially intact infrastructure a few miles inland.

New Orleans was physically isolated with little functioning infrastructure for dozens of miles, and faced increasing water levels in the days after the initial disaster.

Of course, there were also plenty of social, cultural, and governmental response issues at play as well.
