I have admired your usage of American slang. I think you have a sense of when and where to use it for emphasis. If you have a Chinese accent I think this is an unexpected contrast. Slang is not easy to grasp in another language.
And in a post some time ago, you may have mentioned that the Chinese language doesn’t have tenses or plurals. So there is another way to express those in Chinese (duh, and yes, I could google it).
In fact, re Delta flight on the way down, a lady was trying to figure out when to board and it was obvious that she was Spanish speaking and struggling in English. So I talked to her a little in Spanish and she said “oh we should sit together.” It was 6:30 am, when I don’t do much English speaking, let alone Spanish. Anyhow, we were in different seats and I discovered I was sitting next to two empty seats. I was delighted to discover that I could stretch out and snooze the whole way down, when she came by to ask if she could sit by me. [me gritting teeth, wincing in my own mind….]. I told her I got no sleep the night before and wanted to sleep. I slept for the entire time from takeoff till 15 minutes before landing.
I just learned a coworker of mine is homeless. I had no idea. His girlfriend came up and was asking where she could go tonight to sleep and she offhandedly mentioned she had to wait for so-and-so to join her so they could go together.
“So-and-so? Who works here?”
“Yeah.”
I looked at another coworker who regularly speaks with this person and she nodded, yes, it’s true.
