  1. True, M4L. You can’t do that same day, but I am going to do a little of that. Running to Fairway is a pain all the time. I have friends in Manhattan who order once a month from Fresh Direct – mostly non-perishables. They charge 5 bucks delivery and you usually have to tip them so that adds up for little deliveries, but I guess in situations like this snow, it really makes sense.

  2. “{it’s pretty easy to just look at someone and know if they have a foreskin or not. you dont actually have to pull their pants down or something to know!”

Um, OK. Why don’t you let us know which brownstoner regulars are circumcised and which aren’t (males only of course).

  3. The NY Times commenting on the Catholic Church: rich. I’ll follow Donatella’s lead. I see no need to respond.

Legion: the military commission did reach a conclusion. It found that the contractor was negligent, and they were banned for a while from further military work.

The crux of their problem was that they hired ex-military guys for certain key positions based more on their influence with the big-wigs in the Pentagon than their capability. In particular, they hired a hack for a key engineering role, and this guy was WAY over his head. The total cost to the US taxpayer from this fiasco was $75 million dollars.

I also remembered that they hired an ex-general to make their case to this commission. After they were rebuked by the commission, he was seething in the hallways outside. One thing I’ll never forget was his statement that went something like this “What’s $75 million dollars to the Pentagon”??

  4. “Regarding the Panda, Rob, . . . He seemed to have “issues” about his profession.”

I’m envisioning a youtube vid of Gov. Christie berating the panda — “You don’t HAVE to be a panda!”

  5. You remember, rf! Right? When I came here 6 years ago, that supermarket was unbelievable. I thought, why don’t the people here start a revolution??????? The meat was grey, dairy products all expired, milk sour, wilted produce, old eggs….. I quit going there and went to Shoprite or Key food in Park Slope until Fairway.

You are right about that place on Grand and Lafayette. That’s not bad. Just a little longer walk, though.
