” The obverse of the idea that being upbeat helps is that people who succumb could’ve beaten it or in some way invited it & that’s a really insidious concept.” —
there was recently article about this (in sunday NYTimes magazine maybe?) – concurring with you on this.
Bxgrl, anesthesia is one area of medicine that has really improved over the past two decades. It’s the reason people now leave the hospital so quickly after surgery (well, aside from insurance company greed), which is much, much better for them both in how quickly they recover physically and that they don’t get hospital-acquired infections. My brother left the hospital 4 days after his liver transplant. No rehab–because of the need to come back to the hospital for follow-up visits, he stayed at a shared apartment set up for that purpose for a couple of weeks. It is a few blocks from Mt. Sinai. One day after he left the hospital, he was walking around in the street and another day later he was taking the subway.
I agree, Arkady…certainly good surgery and the right prescription of medicine is the key. oftentimes many people can’t tolerate the associated problems with the medicines.
rf, Fairway is NOT worth digging out the car. what the heck will you do for parking on the return trip???? plus I’m not confident the roads are in that good of condition. even mid town main streets werent as cleared out as I expected.
I didn’t need to know that, Denton.
L train sounds terrible, DH.
