  1. benson, that very same thing happened to a friend of mine. He’s American born Chinese and sounds that way. He was picking up the keys to my aprtment in Hong Kong from a japanese couple who lived next door to me and were very good friends. They were yelling at each other in japanese because they though he was totally Chinese or American, with the American accent and wouldn’t understand them.

He speaks fluent Japanese. We all had a good laugh bout it later because the Japanese couple…he was actually American…had a great sense of humor but it was all about her not being “made up for company.”

    LOL

  2. I did my own taxes for years, even when I owned a depreciable investment property, and that was long before software. But since I am partners in a biz the acct has to do the biz returns, and mine therefore gets done essentially for free.

  3. On a trip to Japan, I was having lunch with a Japanese colleague with whom I was very friendly. He was telling me all about his brand-new, single family home, and he was bursting with pride. All of a sudden he says to me “You want to see it?”. Of course I did, as I was curious to see what the inside of a Japanese home looked like.

When we got there, he went in first, and I could hear an agitated discussion going on. He comes out, and says “You can come in, but please excuse my wife, she doesn’t have her face-paint on” (That’s the words he used: “Face paint”). I went in, and could see that his wife was very upset. I knew my friend would have HELL to pay that night.
