The thing that astounds me, really blows my mind is how sheep-like and passive people are about this happening. Like, oh well. Ain’t it a shame. The violence these days….. I want to stand up and say for FUCK’s sake, CARE!!!!
caring about stuff like that just jacks up the rent and prices you out.
“whole 2nd amendment argument revolves around the freedom to take the law into your own hands. ”
Totally disagree Dona.
One has nothing to do with the other. The 2nd Amendment never suggested it should operate outside of the framework of the law. The Supreme Court has never suggested that the 2nd Am doesn’t allow reasonable restrictions on firearms. It’s recent decisions have indicated tho that a total ban on firearms is wrong.
OK, thanks for your explanation. You are clearly one of the good guys.
Denton, I totally agree about the US having a violet culture, and no level of gun control will make that go away.
However, I do have a feeling that the number of violet deaths would go down with more gun control, with a corresponding uptick in non-deadly knifings and beatings.
I also guess that the total number of violet crimes would go down slightly with more gun control because easy access to guns make violent crimes “easier.”
Thanks, dh. That is why I am trying to work with neighbors and police. The thing that astounds me, really blows my mind is how sheep-like and passive people are about this happening. Like, oh well. Ain’t it a shame. The violence these days….. I want to stand up and say for FUCK’s sake, CARE!!!!

Just got off the phone with the Principal of Bishop Laughlin, who was very nice. He told me there was a cop there at the event and that the victims weren’t students but did attend the game. That there was a HUGE crowd and that they had to close the doors, turning some kids away (was that a reason?). They really don’t know the motive for the incident but that the basketball games are a huge draw/event in Brooklyn and attract kids from all neighborhoods. He said there is another big game this Friday night and that they will have a huge game with Xavier, a rival school the first Friday of Feb which will be a big party/homecoming of alumni afterward. The guy told me to stop by at any time to meet him and that they were working hard with the police to do whatever they can.
BHS, we live in a violent culture. There are many interesting stats. One that fascinates me is that death in most US cities by knife is higher than many other Western nations cities overall. IOW if tom’w you could magically remove every gun from the nation, death rate would still be higher in US cities.
THen there are cultures within cultures. Vermont, for example, is one of two states where no permit to carry a handgun openly or concealed is needed. Yet does Vermont have a high murder rate? I guess Jackal keeps the peace up there…

I was hoping to buy it when I struck oil on my fire escape.
I hope who ever bought it FOR ME converts it into a grand one-family home. I’d like an elevator please…and a soaking tub.
