Ach, Benson, that totally sucks. If you tell people what to bring, they should bring it. Really bad form otherwise. sigh.
(But have to agree on the leftovers. Mmm. We’re down to the last half-dozen deviled eggs, and only supreme willpower is keeping them in the fridge.)
In hyper-local news, the two B65s that were outside the house behind the stuck ‘stang several hours ago apparently gave up and are parked there for the duration (though the mustang is gone). For those of you thinking of driving on Dean St tomorrow, consider another route.
My wife cooked the main meal, as she told everyone she would. As I said, my brother’s family was supposed to bring dessert. My sister begged off any cooking because she is in a stressful period. My wife asked her just to bring the bread. Her friend was a complete surprise. It is her husband’s friend and he came by to vist.
The upside of it is: we have alot of yummy leftovers.
Oh, Benson, so was the main meal to be cooked by your sister’s friend and your brother’s stuff filled everyone up so that nobody could eat the special things your sister’s friend made? Or was the main meal to be cooked by your wife? Either way, all of this stuff blew the menu and the plan for the evening?? It sounds like you probably have a lot of food over there.
For Christmas, my brother cooked. He did a good job. His wife is Italian but he is actually the better cook or should I say the person who likes to cook more. There were Italian style appetizers and then after that your classic pork, gravy, mashed potatoes and vegetables.
He keeps getting better and better and this meal was awesome.
Managed to get the oven fixed in time. We borrowed my daughter’s counter-top microwave.
Christmas day at our house did not go well, however. My wife is still fuming over what happened. As usual, she had consulted with my brother’s wife and my sister about the menu, and what they should bring.
Come the day however, two things happened:
-my brother, who fashions himself a great cook, brought over a whole slew of appetizers that he cooked, because he and his family like to nosh, not dine. My wife had asked them to bring wine and dessert.
-my sister brings over a friend who owns a restaurant, and HE brings some of his special dishes. Everybody pigged out during the appetizers, such that no one had room for dinner.
As I said, my wife is fuming. She has a gentle nature, and they took advantage of it. We both resolved not to let it happen again. If they bring food like that again, it will not be served.
donatella…don’t throw salt on those new brownstone steps of yours.

Never mind, I see what happened Benson. Basically the guests brought so much food that nobody could eat your wife’s special dinner. 🙁
You need to have a second party for delish leftovers.
Now I have to do a little shoveling. ‘Night, Plusas.

Grrr…shopping stinks. I give up.
