which kind of sucks cuz i also did framing and art handling there and it was off the books and was great supplemental income that i could SO be using now. technically i was never fired, they just never called me again and i never even picked up my last money.
i served wine and drinks at a gallery for 3-4 years. i was let go tho 🙁 i was invited to a party and totally left my shift in the middle of it. ah well i was so tired of dealing with tribeca art snobs.
Worked as a bartender before but at catering events. That doesn’t really count as 80 percent of the work was opening beer and wine bottles and another 19 percent was basically something on the rocks or vodka cranberries or something simple. only like 1% of people ever ordered something that had more than 2 ingredients to mix or even use a shaker. Easy breezy. I wouldn’t be able to make one of those fancy cocktails for the life of me.
“so i just got back and my boss asked me if it was traumatic for me being in that store (i had to pick up a bow tie)”
And…what did you say?

My niece started bartending at the restaurant where she also waitresses, in the East Village:

Very nice place, on 7th St. east of Bowery.
She learned on the job, and said it really wasn’t too difficult. More money, and lots easier on the feet.

I was never a bartender, but I WAS a waitress and a pretty bad one.
Yes, m4l. The objective with most bars is to sell them at their height of popularity.
There’s also a bookstore on Vanderbilt.
It was the one which was where the new Tween store on Bergen is now. It moved to Vanderbilt over a year ago.
And yes, the very nice Greenlight Bookstore is on Fulton as was said.
