  1. “those numbered streets are modest -smaller houses. But good blocks (if you mean 1st and 2nd.) 3rd isn’t quaint like the others because wide 2-way street”

m4l, I agree with Pete, which is rare. The numbered streets and the named streets (Carroll, President, Union, Sackett) in that area are pretty nice, especially between Smith and Hoyt.

3rd Street not so much. Also heavy 2-way and truck traffic over the bridge over the canal. And Bond, forget it! You might as well buy a houseboat IN the canal. I do not know who is buying at 3rd & Bond or the Satori in those locations and at those prices.

  2. Pete, thanks. If school is so so, the prices are high (ie 1.2-1.3M for small 3 story needing tlc) relative other comparables in BoCoCa or am I still carrying my Clinton Hill / Crown Heights pricing mentality to this hood? Carroll Garden is 1 prime hood I rarely pay attention to hence not familar with pricing

  3. “PS…we ARE talking about the matriarchal societies that are left. You didn’t read the original post. I’d hate to have to call you out on reading comprehension.”

I did read the original post. There is an area in Yunnan, China which is widely believed to be a matriarchal society, and some scattered groups elsewhere in Asia, Africa and South America … and to my knowledge there has been no systematic study of whether male homosexuality is more common among these groups.

  4. speaking about Mercury and CitiCorp,

    if you’re concerned about Mercury,
you better not go to the upper floors
    of the CitiCorp building.
There’s a pool of mercury up there.
They use it to float a giant slab
of iron which acts to limit vibrations.
    A dampening device.

  5. I would guess, sloper, that we disagree on what constitutes a “matriarchal” society. I consider the United States (where women are nominally more equal to men than in Latin America) more patriarchal than Latin America. Male and female roles are much more separated in Latin America. Women enjoy much more control over their areas of influence than women do in the United States. In the United States, we are trying to force ourselves to believe that women and men are different only in genetalia and the result is that women no longer have any real sphere of influence and, in fact, are substantially the losers in pretty much all areas.

And dibs tells us that everyone is gay is Latin America.
