Actually, I now find that paying with credit cards is faster with cash. For many purchases, $20 and under I think, you don’t even have to sign anymore. I use a credit card at the cafeteria at work now, even for a $1.50 coffee, because it’s faster, and I can’t stand getting stuck behind someone fumbling with cash and change.
I wish all stores had their checkout queues set up like Whole Foods – great system there.
HA speaking of Chary i left a note in the dog log for my new dog walker and included the word chary. i told her that my dog is chary of other dogs and people and to please stop with the ridiculous training she is doing with him and that her job is to just make sure he pisses and craps. so far she’s walked him like 5 times, and only twice he’s crapped on their walk. it’s like you are NOT cesar the dog whisperer, you are some mooonface loser who picks up dog shi+ for a living.
Trust me, m4l, I look at what everyone has, their general demographic with propensity for delay, how fast the cashier is, make sure there are enough bags. And then they run out of paper for the computer and no one seems to have the right kind. Or someone has an item that’s not in the computer.
other supermarket line tips: when who to pick to stand behind in line..
avoid greentarded moonfaces who bring their own bedbug ridden tote bags who pack their own groceries, they take forever and are super anal about placement in the bags.
try to get behind someone you think is using a welfare benefits card to pay. those transactions are super fast cuz they never buy bruisables (i.e. fruits and vegetables) so everything just gets thrown into their bags quickly.
obviously avoid anyone over 70
obviously avoid the exact change freaks. they are usually pretty to spot as well.
a lot of line choosing comes down to stereotyping people, but 9 times out of 10 it works.
Snakepit is a great movie! Gave me nightmares for years. Anyone remember A Nun’s Story with Audrey Hepburn?
I’m chary of all this jejune discussion of arcane words.

“I had no idea Olivia deHavilland was still alive.”
Neither did I. Great interview, great lady!
Biff, your post reminded me to finally look up “chary”, which I just did.
Not much time to post right now, but thought Rob would appreciate this Merriam-Webster Word of the Day
