New York Pension Cuts Outlook, Raises Contributions
Sept. 2 (Bloomberg) — New York’s $124.8 billion pension fund, the nation’s third-largest, reduced the assumed rate of return on its investments to 7.5 percent from 8 percent, Comptroller Thomas DiNapoli said.
DiNapoli, the sole trustee of the pension fund, said state and local government employers’ payments to the fund will increase to about 16.3 percent of payroll in February 2012, from
11.9 percent due in February 2011.
“The markets have become much more challenging over the past decade which justifies a sensible reduction in the assumed investment rate of return,” DiNapoli said in prepared remarks for a press conference today in Albany, the state capital.

i get approached at least 10 times a day in soho from people asking for directions and subway info. oddly i am pretty decent at giving the right answers for stuff around here.

recently I’ve been thinking about the whole ‘church lady’ thing. Cuz I remember growing up in the early 1960s, up by Riverside Church, and seeing them every Sunday.

But what I’ve been thinking about is that by now I’ve seen a couple more generations of folx, but we still have the same group of church ladies.

So I guess what it means is that those hip-hop chicks you see out there dancing in the street will grow up to be church ladies too.
