  1. “Jinx, Dave – that calls for a Gloria karaoke duet. (Sorry, Slopefarm)”

Jessi — just catching up, but a Gloria earworm is fine. Van Morrison (“I’m talkin’ bout my baby”) or Patti Smith (“Jesus died for somebody’s sins but not mine . . . “).

Gloria was some storm. Took out a whole power company. LILCO would still be in business today if it weren’t for how slowly it responded and how long its CEO stayed on vacation during the aftermath. That coupled with the three municipalities on LI that had municipally owned utilities that charged half the rates as LILCO and got the pwoer baqck on five times faster and that LILCO was fraudulently including various Shoreham-relted cost overruns in the rate base, and you had a recipe for an awful lot of republicans embracing the idea of a publicly-owned utility for LI, which had a large movement behind the idea and came to fruition eyars later. Shoreham by itself would probably not have killed LILCO. GLoria was a big factor.

  2. About relatives being so toxic and it being better to break off contact……I never understood that and thought that was the ultimate tragedy but I understand it now. Sometimes it is best.

I suspect though with your grandmother, you are awkward with one another and there’s lots of angst from the past.
But that she loves you and thinks about you in her own wacky way (and you in your wacky way) and isn’t it that
the way it is with families?

You gotta know how much you can take though…
