*rob*, jessi and parksloper,
yeah, the Rockaways are fun,
as I said, uniquely New York.
When I was ordering, there was
a group of like 4 Sanitation Dept.
guys that lined up their trucks to
wait in line at the Taco place.
A lot of people bike there from Brooklyn
they go straight down Flatbush past
Floyd Bennet Field and over the Marine Park Bridge
once on the bridge, you can see the Atlantic Ocean.
That leads you to Riis Park which is nice on a
hot day like today, especially along the
shoreline in Fort Tildon which is all dunes
and birds and water.
If you skip Riis Park and take the bike trail,
it will lead you down Rockaway Beach Blvd.
which first goes through the beautiful neighborhoods
of Neponsit and Belle Harbor. Huge homes with
manicured lawns and beaches at the end of every street.
Follow the streets down from Beach 149th down and you will eventually hit the more commercial districts around 116th to the 90’s. 116th street has a bunch of local bars and a subway station which is the last stop on the A train.
The beaches along the 90’s are rougher around the edges
but cool to look around and explore. Stick to the Beach side since the Bay side doesn’t really have much unless you’re bringing a fishing pole.
*secret treat* at the far end of 116th street (on the bay, behind the Gasoline Station and the Quick Lube is a restaurant called The Wharf. A great place to hang for a couple of hours on a sunny day with a beer or 3. They don’t really advertise so you have to look for it. Live music on weekend nights.
*rob* water quality is much better than Coney Island since it’s straight on the Atlantic not on NY Harbor.
Negative is that there are wiked rip currents so you have to be a good swimmer to go out far. If not, stay close to shore.
donatella,
you’re right, I gotta give up on the nuggets.
Drive-throughs will be the death of me. ;(
doantella, Pete is a grumpy old crumudgeon. He’s prpbably never had a cookout and is the one in his yard with the hose out when anyone else tries to have fun.

For how long will you breastfeed junior? My friend’s husband got it straight from the boob til he was 4. Disgusting. He told his mother he’d rather milk from 7-11.

That’s why breastfeeding an infant is important.

omg, you use charcoal in your backyard? I’d be throwing water balloons if lived on my block.
Well, what do you do Pete? Boil your hot dogs? Grill your chicken on a George Forman? Bake your hamburgers till they turn grey?????
