Actually Cobble, things are pretty much the same today. Whole rooms, nice and cold, a lot of security to get in. Of course the thousand blade servers at any one probably have 10000x all the computer power in the world back when you were young 🙂
don’t remember a college grad present as the whole thing was a gift, but my parents ponied up with the law school grad gifts. jewish guilt for not paying, i suppose.
I got a baseball glove for my junior high graduation, even tho afterwards I got kicked out. That was my last graduational experience. Man, all the gifts I gave up!
Yesterday there was a thread with more posts than the OT?!?!?!?
How could you let that happen? WTF!
You guys are P A T H E T I C!
or not pathetic enough.
“Computers had not been invented when I graduated from college.”
Well, they had invented computers, they just took up entire floors of buildings back then, and terminals were still using only geeky line commands. I remember going with my father to see the mainframe he worked on at a super secret company in a top secret NYC location when I was about 9. (The security clearance process for him was a trip and a half.) It was a giant ‘clean room’, very cold. He printed out a Snoopy calendar for me on a dot matrix printer on that perf’d continuous computer paper.
I never got anything for my graduations. All my parents said was be thankful you can go to school and you’re educating yourself for your future, not ours. I am sure M4L got the similar treatment.

I didn’t own my own computer until 8 years after I finished college.
