  1. BrooklynCouch — You never answered my straight-forward question… since you kept bringing up the downfall of civilization in Europe vis-a-vis same-sex civil unions.

    ********

By the way… What is going on in Western Europe that is directly related to same-sex marriage?!

Is this related to the European Union is the forming of the “Beast Kingdom” that will engulf the world? and things like a unified monetary system being one of the tools of the Anti-Christ and the “seven years of peace” is the work of the Devil…. all preventing the second coming of Christ?

In the end we’ll all be sodomizers and baby killers doing the bidding of Ba‘al Zebûb?

    Something like that?

  2. By tybur6 on August 4, 2010 6:58 PM, I peeked at it in law school, and since.

Whatever. You can’t marry your sister–is that unconstitutional and inhuman? Or your already-married friend, or your mother, or a child, or your dog. Quit sounding like an anarchist. Or is it nihlist…?

Nothing prevents you from being gay, and being in love. Or being in love with multiple people. Or murdering someone if it makes you happy.

Marriage, for thousands of years, has been man/woman; and for almost as long, in our culture, one man, and one woman.

Good luck with your “struggle.” I hope you lose.

  4. Last time I checked… saying women and black men are intelligent and are equal citizens was pretty “radical” It was also upending, essentially all of human history, and deciding that women and black men were equal to a White Man of European decent…

  5. By the way BrooklynCouch — If you didn’t sense that sarcasm, it was the 14th Amendment that was written to PRECISELY avoid what you suggest… namely, the trampling of “Life, Liberty and the Pursuit of Happiness” for individuals and groups that happen to be in the minority at any given moment.

Racial minority, cultural minority, religious minority, political minority, and so on.

You probably should take a peek at The Constitution… give it a read. If someone with a different sexual orientation isn’t afforded the same rights and privileges…. well, what about other things? I hear Asian folks aren’t good at caring for children either! Why do they get to adopt!? They’re definitely not good drivers, they shouldn’t even be allowed to take the test, never mind drive!

  6. “ya know, that same-sex couples are incapable of raising children, not deserving of tax breaks, and are generally ‘less than’ —> Shouldn’t the Constitution be ammended to reflect this?!”

Well actually, what you say is kind of backwards. It’s the new, radical stuff that needs to be said explicitly. And there’s pretty much nothing more radical than upending, essentially all of human history, and deciding that marriage can be same-sex.

yeah, it’s a bit different than the continent. American law follows the english system of common law… and you’re right, lots of wiggle room. it’s never going to be completely objective.
