  1. Sounds like where I grew up, too, in upstate NY. I really hope I can afford to buy up there someday. I have a lot of great memories from childhood. Property up there is still cheap, too, especially where I was, which is farther away than most NYC people want to go for a weekend house.

  2. I know it sounds funny, since it is New York City, but where I grew up in Staten Island (before the Verrazano) was semi-rural. There were thousands and thousands of acres of woods on the South Shore. When I go to a place like Mohonk, it all comes back. But where you were……wow. That had to be amazing.

  3. It was great Donatella. My own private paradise. The only skate marks I ever saw on that ice were my own.

There were a couple of houses near one end of the swamp but I never went near them (except in the summer to buy honeycomb from a guy who kept bees). Other than that the swamp is surrounded by one of the largest contiguous forests in Massachusetts. I used to fish for brook trout in the stream that empties out of the swamp. I know where there are caves out there. They aren’t much fun though because they are full of of porcupine shit.
