Speaking of antique japanese stuff:
Was having brunch at Vinegar Hill House a month or 2 ago. While walking back, I encountered this garage where a guy is selling 19th century japanese antique furniture. Absolutely beautiful, but SOOOO expensive. If any of you guys are into that stuff definitely worth checking out
DH, I’ve met this guy. I stumbled upon it one Sunday when over there with a friend. He is Dane Owen (author of a book on Japanese furniture) and a dealer of Japanese antiques. It turned out that the friend I was with also wrote a book for the same publishing company as he did and we all talked for a long time and he showed us everything there. Amazing stuff. The shop name is Sibui and it is on Water Street. The stuff is amazing; generally speaking, it is expensive but for this kind of thing, he is on the market. All the stuff he buys at auctions in Japan. He has great stoneware ceramics. One of the things he had which are NOT expensive were beautiful antique wooden molds for small Japanese cakes with intricate designs. It is an amazing place. And he LOVES what he is doing, extremely knowledgeable and as down to earth as you can get.

Daryl Strawberry in Bryant Park right now doing a reading… he looks good.
he’s giving readings in the park now? he was on the recent celebrity apprentice that just finished last week, and he basically quit the show cuz he was jonesin’ hardcore for whatever the hell he’s on.
Yesterday I took the Greenpoint Ave. bridge at 5:30 and there was zero traffic. No bikes but it was pouring rain. Even with a backhoe going 10 mph, it didn’t get backed up at all.
a zillion posts ago someone asked about OpenOffice. I used it for a few years. It’s certainly worth the price (free!) and then some. I didn’t start many complicated docs or other files but I could open everything. Just remember to save-as the microsoft version; it saves in its own format so others without openoffice can’t open them.
It’s distributed by a consortium headed by Sun Computer I think.

Most bike lanes are a sham since cyclists can’t rely on motorists to not violate them.

Glad to hear he’s not in Thompkins Square Park scoring crack. Reading is much better for you than crack.
