Dave, my best recollection is they removed a lot, if not all, of the old asphalt. I recall there being bubbles and patches and so forth on the old roof that they didn’t want under the new roof.
Biff, it’s not necessarily so much for the reflection of heat enterring the house but more so that it prolongs the life of the roof. Yes, it is highly recommended.
Cgar, did they apply the new roof over the old one? it seems like they most likely did for that price. Or, did they take the old rubber/asphalt down to the wood sheathing?
CGar, thanks, I’ll get the deets from you. We do indeed need a new roof. And someone suggested painting a black roof with that metallic, reflective silver paint to decrease the heat coming through in the summer. I see this on the top of many other browstones around me. Do people recommend this?
“Adrian Grenier is as tall (short0 as me – maybe an inch shorter.”

First time I had my roof redone I was given a 20-yr guarantee. Company was no longer in existence when I tried to find them after 12 or 15 years.
dibs, I suggest Greene Roofing Inc.
“that metallic, reflective silver paint”
These could also be rubber roofs, Biff. All the rubber roofs I’ve seen, including my own, were painted silver.
