wasder….stevia is native and grows perennially in Paraguay. However, it is grown as a crop annually and has been developped to yield much higher amounts in, yup, you guessed it, China. 80% of the world’s stevia comes from China. It is controlled by one listed company, GLG in Canada (GLG CN)and they have a contract to sell their supply to Cargill, who in turn is Coca Cola’s supplier.

Do any of you use Truvia, the new sweetener made from the stevia plants? There is already a Sprite “Green” on the market and Coca Cola will be introducing one at the Super Bowl.
Weider Natural Foods is also marketing a steviaa-based product…0 calories, no triglyceride/sugar issues/100% organic from the stevia plant.
