I put the blame firmly on insurance companies, who have been feeding off of us for a century, pharmacutical giants who make gazillions, lobbyists and advertising companies, and the politicians and talking heads who defend, and are paid off, by these people.

MM, but what Legion is preaching will help resolve some of this. He said to open up state boarders and let insurance companies place bids and let supply/demand economics work. We will achieve way more in free market economy without the government intervension with some correct regulation. That’s all.
bxgrl,
lol, we’ve come a long way from the chatroom brawls.
truth be told, I am facing these same problems with my own family. My parents have a medicare HMO and are limited in their options for certain types of care.
one has no choice at times but to understand that nothing in life is a given. make the most of each day and let’s hope that politicians are making decisions for the greater good of our nation and our children.
Did I mention the Cormac McCarthy Book ; The Road.
it’s coming out as a movie.
Really, this is a must read for humanity. Don’t even bother with the fact it won the pulitizer or the national book award or was Oprah’s book of the month.
This book will puts our humanity in perspective.
can I add that health care expenses are leading reason for personal bankruptcies in this country.
And if most people are happy with their insurace…it is people like me who work for gov’t pay little or nothing for great policies, those covered by gov’t health insurance (which I think is about 25% of population ) i.e.medicare, medicaid, and those who probably haven’t had to use it much.
strangely im thumbing thru an 8th grade US history textbook and they say that when medicare and medicaid first started qualifying (whatever that meant at the time) were allowed two months of hospital care allowances and other medical care costs. then it talks about about the Great Society program making americans more dependent on government programs and entitlements..
personally i think the government needs to stay out of private affairs, but on the other hand i do believe in helping people who need it. the whole issue gives me a brain ache tho.
did anyone see gossip girl last night? tyra banks was on it!
Legion, I know we are just going round robin on this and will never agree, but I find it hard to believe that most Americans are satisfied with their heath coverage. If small businesses are the lifeblood of our economy, we all have multiple myloma. Small businesses are classified as those with less than what – 200 employees? Most of the small businesses I know, and have worked for, have less than 30. When I did have insurance, we paid quite a bit for it out of pocket, as my employers could not afford to do any better, and would have stopped covering us at all, if they didn’t feel the moral imperative to offer insurance. What about all of the other occupations and single person businesses? Truck drivers, farmers, artists, craftsmen, even single practice small town lawyers, accountants and vetinarians? The guy who owns the grocery store, or the plumber? Not to mention the millions of other workers who just don’t have insurance? I don’t think the majority is happy. If it was, this wouldn’t be an issue.
If I had to make a conspiracy out of it, the enemy is not the hospitals, or the doctors, or the people who check in under assumed names, or even the greedy lawyers who’ve made the practice of certain kinds of medicine almost prohibitive. I put the blame firmly on insurance companies, who have been feeding off of us for a century, pharmacutical giants who make gazillions, lobbyists and advertising companies, and the politicians and talking heads who defend, and are paid off, by these people. I wish Obama could clean house, but they are too strong, and too powerful. I don’t think we will get anything that will really change the system, no matter how much he and the rest of us would like to. I hope he keeps trying though.
