  1. THL, my friends bought Hess trucks for their kids every Christmas, though I THINK they stopped once the “kids” went off to college. I was big on Matchbox cars and Lego – I was always building, a frustrated architect who should NOT have become a lawyer. The trains were more my brother’s; I think I got turned off when I rebuilt his layout one day, and he got mad and threw a piece of track at me, and I still have the scar!

  2. Benson,

    Don’t you see the value in bringing a new audience to the work and keeping the spirit and music alive?

    Of course, as with everything, there is going to be some creative license so as to give it flow.

    Otherwise it’s just a tribute band concert right?

  3. THL- The Lionels are all in the original red & blue boxes, as is the art deco style transformer/control box. The set was last displayed in the late 80’s. It takes up nearly a whole room if you set up correctly with the trees, street lights, billboards, benches, pedestrians, houses & airport. I only set up the wind up tin trains around the X-mas tree because it is slightly smaller scale and my niece & nephew like to hear the locomotive whistle.

    CG- My mom put away my MB car travel case with 20 or so cars in it as well as my Star Wars Millenium Falcon with 10 or so figures inside it. This stuff is up there too, dating from the late 70’s. In that box are also Happy Days & Laverne & Shirley, as well as Dukes of Hazard coloring books that my sister never colored in …again, I was told to save these because they are not colored in and in new condition.. I have the Plasticville Diner, Airport, Southern Mansion, Log Cabin and a few cars & airplanes.

  4. Bodhi;

    You and I have different tastes. I went to see Jersey Boys, and couldn’t wait to get out – and I’m a BIG 4 seasons fan. I can’t take these so-called musicals like Jersey Boys, Mam Mia, Uptown Girls, etc. where you know what happened is that the producer said: “OK, we’ve got these set of songs from which we’ve got to make a story”. In the case of Jersey Boys, I remember that they took one FV song and used it for some scene that was ludicrous.

  5. CGar- one of my favorite toys was the Hess Truck my dad would get us each year. It always came out around the holidays and they were awesome. working lights, horns, barrels of oil. LOVED it. He also bought us Matchbox cars.

    He had two girls and no sons. Poor thing.

  6. “CGar, as the recipient of more TKOTD awards than anyone else (combined, perhaps), what do you think? 10 mins?”

    Biff, given my track record, I’d say 10 days! But I think 10 minutes is fair. Though, as your Chief of Staff, I’d recommend a lunch hour exemption.
