Biff, I’m working on making him such an outfit as we speak…I’m thinking orange headband, green shorts and white socks with black and yellow stripes. Too gauche? 🙂
Last night Mrs. Denton, the kid, and me went to check out the (in)famous Hotel LeBleu and its recently opened restaurant. As previously posted here, some local blog hated on it.
But the place is kinda special to us, not completely in a good way, as we lived across the street from us and watched it go up and destroy our views of Manhattan in the process. In fact I have a gallery of pix from the beginning to the end. http://www.pbase.com/dentontay/lebleu
Anyway we got there just after 6PM. We pressed ‘R’ for Restaurant and ended up on the unoccupied roof deck, so we looked around and took some photos. They are set up for a bar and music, later I found out they open it Friday and Saturday.
We descended one flight to the restaurant and were promptly and courteously seated at our choice of tables. Only one other couple there at the time but more people showed up as the evening progressed. I usually start off with a rum and coke but the waiter announced they had pina colada and some fancy daiquiris. So I decided to go for the pina colada. Then the waiter came back and said they didn’t have it after all! So, back to the r&c.
We ordered appetizers with the idea of sharing, so we got the short-rib stuffed coins, the crabcake, and the calamari. All very good. The wine list btw is very small, like one representative per grape, but well chosen.
For the main course I had the pan-roasted fish combo, and Mrs D and da kid had the seared salmon and the snapper. Again all very good, perfectly cooked fish, but it suddenly struck me they weren’t served as hot as they could have been. I realized they hadn’t bothered to heat the plates, something that they should consider doing in the future.
For dessert we had the chocolate cake, the crème brulee, and the coffee cheesecake. I didn’t like the cheesecake but that’s probably cuz I don’t like coffee! Da kid said it was good.
Not a cheap date, the bill was close to $300 with tip, but that’s with a bottle of wine and four drinks. Not bad. I’d definitely go back, the service was polite and attentive, the food was good, the views are great after dark. It was too hot too sit outside but that would be a nice option.
I spoke to a manager about a ‘Stoner get-together on the roof with the bar during the week, and he was interested. Be a nice place for sure.
Did anyone watch “Toddlers & Tiaras” on TLC last night? (Not making this up) It’s about a bunch of tiara-toting PLUSAs terrorizing Prospect Park parents by buying their kids’ ice cream an hour before dinner.
Snappy, that’s like tetherball for kitties…excellent! Hari’s just missing the feathered hair, head band, 1970’s Adidas shorts and striped knee high sweat socks.
Many of you are deeply interested in the preservation of architectural detail within brownstones. Do you think that a modern use of the small chopped up configuration of second & third floor “bedrooms” in a brownstone is detrimental to the preservation of such homes? In other words, if one were to combine one or two small closet-like rooms into a large en-suite bathroom you should be told this:
“DIBS is a danger to the very integrity of mankind…”

Additionally, I was told that I am “obscene and tacky” because I used granite & stainless steel in my kitchen.
First of all, I am very kind to most men.
Secondly, atlthough I’ve done obscene things throughout my like, I sort of grew out of tackiness in my college years.
ha, mopar, i saw your suggestions in the HOTD thread telling me to go to bushwickbk.com (i stopped visiting that site a while back after it basically turned into a giant bushwick kidult circle jerk) about the hannah montana thingie in some art performance show. i just read it and clearly they are mocking her. but the jokes on them clowns, if they only had her money, her looks, her talent, they wouldn’t be LIVING IN BUSHWICK!

Meanwhile, I had taken my big camera and my fave restaurant lens, the wonderful but difficult 85 1.2L, and looked around and took some pix. Many have called the décor ‘tacky’. I’m not sure, it was obviously a take-off on the 1950s, but what I am agreement with many others is that the two TVs are a mistake in a dining room. Especially since they were tuned to some food channel, and while we’re eating fish we’re watching some guy bone out raw chicken and make chopped beef. Yech.
I have a gallery of photos here, inside, outside, and some of the dishes. The view definitely improves after dark!
