  1. I’ve been away (not Awaye) all day and am just now catching up, but I want to briefly return to this whole organic/local thing:

    1. Buying local is not necessarily better for the environment (http://www.newyorker.com/reporting/2008/02/25/080225fa_fact_specter) since you need to take into account factors such as type of soil, fertilizer, water use, etc.

    2. If cmu had his way on a global scale – no industrial farming, no genetic modification for drought-resistance, etc., no pesticides to keep undesirable germs and so on out of our crops – it would really mean the death of lots and lots of people. Fewer crops would survive, thus shrinking the food supply. That whole “Green Revolution” really did work.

    Again, nature is full of stuff that’s bad for you. So are man-made products. Life is full of tradeoffs – we don’t live in a perfect world and never will.
