Dibs, how come you hate workers in this country, but love them when they run China?

HUH??? I think unions are no longer necessary here and they have an egregious sense of entitlement as recently witnessed by the Stella D’Oro plant closing.
As far as workers here orr in China, I have no opinion on whether one froup is better than the other. They are apples and oranges.
Leaving tomorrow for a 3 ½ week vacation in Maine. Won’t be posting, and sad to miss all the great posts and comments. Thought I’d post my reading list though.
FICTION
1. “Let The Great World Spin†by Colum McCann – 1974 NYC, with Philippe Petit as opener.
2. “Lush Life†by Richard Price – The LES in 2003, with gentrification and poverty not coexisting.
3. “The Northern Clemency†by Philip Hensher – 1970s and 80s family saga, set in Thatcher’s Britain.
NONFICTION
1. “Liberty and Tyranny†by Mark Levin – Visited a friend in SC who kept talking about this book, “a conservative’s manifesto.†Saw it at McNally Jackson and decided to buy it.
2. “Physics of the Impossible†by Michio Kaku – A scientist explains force fields, invisibility, and time travel.
3. “Chess Master vs. Chess Amateur by Max Euwe and Walter Meiden – Supposedly the best way to learn chess as an intermediate player (like me) is to study games between players with very different rankings.
4. “Way of the Peaceful Warrior†by Dan Millman; “War of Art†by Steven Pressfield – I’m a sucker for anything that will make me feel more self-actualized.
Finally, if you only read one book this year, make it “Columbine†by Dave Cullen, the real story behind the massacre. Eric and Dylan wanted to create another Oklahoma City, and 95% of their plan that day failed. The massacre was a desultory attempt to just do something in the face of failure. It will leave you breathless, horrified, and fascinated. Best book I’ve read in years.
Berkeley-Carroll School used a dumpster pool for years.

“moderate- and middle-income families.”
what if you’re a moderate income single dude
did you guys read about Dumpster Pools!?! turning dumpsters into pools!?!
*rob*
Ditto – First used in Italy not Poland.
MARKET DOWN 7% from recent highs. If stock market is going to lead the economy when it’s going up, how about when it’s going down?
China may be in a great economic position right now, but they are a fascist dictatorship, a major polluter, and have imperialist asperations.
The US stupidly put China in the cat bird seat, and eventually will have to deal with the negative implications of our short sightedness.

…just a gigilo, and everybody knows…
what’s that song by David Lee Roth?
haha giglio – but i totally thought it was a male prostitute feast until someone told me different.
