“My question is, is that typical? Have other cities made such a request when security and other related costs have run so high for a memorial or any other type of service?”
If people read my posts about the economy then you would know about California’s economic troubles!
California budget nightmare
Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger and other state officials face tough fiscal choices now that voters have defeated a series of budget proposals.
The state must make “severe cuts now,” Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger said Wednesday. He and state legislative leaders will have to hammer out a budget deal before the fiscal year ends on June 30. The gap covers the rest of this fiscal year and the next.
California wrote another 12,500 IOUs on Tuesday rather than pay all of its bills in cash, the latest chapter in the financial mess engulfing the nation’s most populous state.
This is called a collapse of the Mutant Asset Bubble!
Wow, so CA is damned near bankrupt, eh? I wonder how many other states are in the same position. Has their pending bankruptcy been a long time coming or is it a circumstance of the current economy? (sorry to introduce a non-cat/sex/food subject here!)
Biff – Here’s a new one I just learned:
PRONUNCIATION:
(RAK-muh-niz-uhm)
MEANING:
noun: The exploitation and intimidation of tenants by landlords.
ETYMOLOGY:
After Peter Rachman (1919-1962), a landlord in London who became notorious for unethical practices including driving out tenants to maximize revenue from his rental properties.
DIBS, are you calling posts from me, THL and bxgrl dribble? By the way, was that a Freudian slip and you meant to say “drivel”?
That reminds me, the Merriam-Webster Word of the Day is lamster. And it’s not a hipster who makes lame jokes, otherwise I would change my login to Dirty Lamster.
Dave, that’s not a trash thing…it’s a young and dumb thing! We did that in college except we used hypodermic needles instead of cutting a hole in the watermelon. Also, we injected grapes with Jack Daniels. We told ourselves it was justified as we were getting our daily allowance of fruit 🙂
Snaps – Scwartenegger has been giving out i.o.u.s instead of money to pay state bills.
Apparently Snappy doesn’t read the news or watch TV. 🙂

The What
Someday this war is gonna end…
Seems ironic we talk about the press giving so much coverage to MJ’s death yet we can’t seem to stop talking about it.
