“He won’t join any club that won’t have him as a member!
Soho House is for the media luvvies.”
That’s funny. I thought you were talking about the Groucho Club. Isn’t there another private club called that? But yes, I am going with one of my media type friends to Soho House, though I am not a member myself.
I apparently missed all of this…when did this take place originally? I doubt Dave had any ill intentions with the use of the word, however I do not believe it should have been fully spelled out.
My mother was a psychologist in an inner-city adolescent facility in DC – the only white on the staff. She was made an honorary N-word by the group – it was a real accolade.
So- first you accused Dave of using that word and now you’re saying he didn’t because he is too much of a pussy? I’m missing the logic here.-
“Really Dave? Naw I don’t buy it! You more “Examples” but you went full blast by using the “N Word”! You didn’t have to go there Dave and you should be ashamed of yourself.”

“”First of all,I’ve never called anyone that word in my life.”
Because you’re a fucking pussy Dave and someone would’ve fucked you up! That’s why!”

“Pretty sure Ralph Ellison uses N-word in Invisible Man. What does that say about him? Pretty sure I have heard Barack Obama use the word when talking about his own upbringing.”
Not a good example, Wasder. I’m not supporting the What’s viewpoint here, but members of specific racial groups have always maintained the luxury to refer to their own members in otherwise derogatory terms, while folks outside the group aren’t seen as having that right. I’m not saying that’s “right,” but that’s the way it is. Dave himself pointed this out yesterday when he said some black people use the “n word” with each other liberally, just as some gay people do the same with the “f-word,” and members outside those groups know they don’t have the same luxury.
The morale of the story is whenever these words are used, you can expect a reaction. I don’t think Dave meant anything personal in his using the “n word,” but because he is not black, he will be seen by some black people (The What) as having bad intentions. For the record, I don’t approve of the use of either of those words by anyone, but I’m fully aware that some members of each of those groups are comfortable using those terms amongst themselves.

Chicken – Groucho wouldn’t join any club that “would” have him as a member.
“Wasder – wow I forgot about Wimbledon – wow London is surely the place to be right now! – hotel prices must be insane!

Hotels are still screaming for business at the mo. Great deals are available anywhere outside of the really big or famous hotels.

Context is all.
