12fishcamp2.jpgLast night, we were talking a big game about trekking into the city to sample the famed lobster rolls at Pearl Oyster Bar for a celebratory birthday dinner… but after reading some reviews about the curt service there, we decided to hit up our old standby, Brooklyn Fish Camp, instead. We love the food there, and in our experience, their wait staff can’t be beat. Since they were out of their spicy conch soup, our server suggested their New England clam chowder instead. We asked if it was really good, and our she replied, “Yeah, it’s got bacon in it!” Obviously, we told her to bring it. We also got an order of fried oysters and clams (the former was heavenly, the latter a bit gristly), a couple of Sixpoint Brooklyn Brownstones, and a couple of lobster rolls. “Check it out,” our waitress said when she arrived with the rolls, served with mountains of thin-cut fries.

She placed them on the table, adding a quiet, “Yay!” You gotta love a wait staff that’s excited about the food they’re serving — it was enough to convince us to try a couple of soul-satisfying desserts — sweet banana pudding and chocolate chip pound cake with rich mascarpone ice cream. The only bummer? We should have celebrated on Tuesday — when the daily special offers a cup of chowder, a lobster roll, and a beer for a mere $20.

  1. I went BFC once with a friend and it was pleasant enough. We paid with a credit card, signing off on a 59 dollar bill and when the card’s monthly statement showed up someone had added 100! Pretty shady.
