What we are reading this week about decorating and renovating old houses:

The late Ed Koch was a surprisingly stylish guy, as these 1970s 1990s photos of his apartment from House & Garden reveal. We’re digging the heritage-preppy-equestrian-man-pad feel here, lent to an otherwise bland white box by the framed posters, sculptural dining room set, black shade with horse lamp, and two-tone wardrobe. Get out your pocket squares.

It’s been a while since we checked in on blog Save Bedford Stuyvesant, and they have some juicy new posts about architect Rudolphe Lawrence Daus and the Three Mile House of Bed Stuy, now gone. How spectacular is the Daus-designed row house at 74 Halsey Street, built in 1886, with its oriel window, above, and practically trompe l’oeil roof/cornice, suggestive of a much larger, standalone, multi-sided structure? As for “mile houses,” they were often stagecoach stops. The Three Mile House in Bed Stuy, built before 1856, was located on Fulton Street, three miles from Brooklyn City Hall.
