Old Garage to Become Single-Family Townhouse in Carroll Gardens
We stumbled across another single-family townhouse going up in Brooklyn, at 181 President Street in Carroll Gardens. We like the old factory feel of the new design, although it’s incongruous on a residential block of 1860s and ’70s brownstones. Windows on the ground floor (even fake ones) would make it more street-friendly, but we think the proportions of the design, the brick, and the loft-style windows are pleasing.
The garage sold to an LLC in 2013 for $1,400,000. The architect is Issac and Stern. What do you think of the development?
Cate: is there any particular reason you sometimes do and something don’t include a GMAP link? Can I suggest you always include one when you the post is about a particular building? Thanks.
Disregard previous comment. It looks similar to a building on another block of President. My apologies.
Block of Browntones? Did you look across the street? Half the block is taken up by a converted factory. The side where this is being constructed has a grand total of THREE brick buildings, two of which are used as apartment building. The rest of the block is taken up by PS 32. I commend the owner for reflecting the industrial character of the neighborhood. And this is actually replacing a small two story brick home.
Okay, thanks!
