Dekalb Avenue Caribbean old-timer Mo-Bay is on the way out. A sign posted in the restaurant’s window shows that an entity called the PJ Italiano Corp plans to open a restaurant. As of Tuesday, only three people had signed the petition for the new restaurant’s liquor license. We’re unclear whether Mo-Bay was forced out or decided to go of its own accord. We always thought it did a good business. Anyone have details? GMAP
The new owner also owns Pepe Viola, at 200 Smith Street, which I don’t know but may answer the question “if it’s going to be a ‘real’ Italian place — to eat in, waitservice, etc. — or another take-out pizza/pasta joint.”
That’s too bad, but hopefully works out well for the family.

i’m sure mo-bay was not forced out as the owner of the restaurant also owns the building…
The reason given by the owner was that the place became too much for her elderly mother to manage so she was closing and would have only the location in Harlem. Mom said…stick a fork in me…i’m done.
I really liked Mo-Bay. I’m sorry to see it go. The only bad thing about it was the space was too small. I hope their restaurant of the same name on 125th Street is doing well.
