This winter there will not be any ice skating at McCarren Park or Wollman Rink in Prospect Park, Brooklyn Paper reports. There were holdups at McCarren Park after Open Space Alliance executive director Stephanie Thayer stepped down this fall and the rink did not work out to be financially viable. The OSA plans to bring the rink to McCarren next winter. The two rinks planned at Prospect Park (see rendering above) are also held up and will not open this season. The $74 million replacement for the old Wollman Rink should be ready next year. So where can Brooklyn skaters head in the colder months? As the Brooklyn Paper points out, Aviator Field in Mill Basin and Abe Stark Arena in Coney Island are the best bets this season in the borough.
