Where have all the oysters gone?
New York Harbor was once a healthy hotbed of massive oysters. Today, it is comparatively derelict of life.
At STEM: Waterfront Ecosystems & Human Impact, the Brooklyn Navy Yard Center’s BLDG 92 will host a workshop examining the history (or lack thereof) of ecosystems in New York’s many bodies of water.
Using the Brooklyn Navy Yard as a lens, the workshop will look at the impact of waterfront infrastructure on natural life.
The workshop will be attended by Billion Oyster Project representatives, who will discuss their classroom curriculum for working with NYC students on oyster restoration.
The event, to occur from 8:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Tuesday, November 3, costs $35 and will include breakfast and lunch. The Brooklyn Navy Yard Center at BLDG 92 is located at Flushing Avenue and Cartlon Avenue.
